Foodie? F'Real F'Real?

So one of the nurses I work with asks me:

"So do you EVER eat at home, Joanne?"

Of course I do. If I am ever there. I spend most of my time outside of the home, so I have to resort to eating out a lot. But when I am home, I do try to make a meal there.

I do consider myself a "foodie," but I do eat frozen lasagna and chicken nuggets, 3 for a $1 packets of Lucky Me! Pancit Canton from the Oriental market, and *gasp* I even eat SPAM!

I'm human.

I just don't understand why people have this air about them that reeks, "I will neva eva eva eat anything that came from a package. Eva. If I do, I have failed as a foodie."

C'mon. Some people take this foodie-ness to a whole other level that I don't want to get myself into. Some foodies are SNOBS. For real for real.

I eat Sour Cream and Onion Pringles. So what? OMG! I had some food from a fast food chain! OMG, fast food is for demons. OMG, how can a foodie do that? That's it, I'm going to disintergrate into the realms of food hell.

There are cooks who eat only homemade stuff, which is totally cool. If I was a cook, I'd probably be home a lot more...

But I'm an eater...if it tastes good, I'll eat it. If it's gross, you best believe I'd leave it on the plate. I went to the Ritz for dinner the other night and there were things on my plate that were SO NOT edible. I didn't care if I was at a 5-star restaurant. I ain't eating it.

Just because I like to eat at nicer places does not entail that that's ALL I eat. I mean, shoot, money ain't growing under my armpits, and even if that was so, I'd still probably go buy myself a Whopper with cheese.

So there.

I'm with you, Jo - no need to go overboard with foodiness, even though I normally eat very well and am trying to eat seasonally and locally. I like a Big Mac every now and then.

P.S. Just had to tell you that I had a Big Mac just after I wrote this and it was dreadful, tasteless and dry! How can something with that much fat be dry???
